Meet Dana Wong
Dana Wong is a former ballet dancer and was Pilates certified in 1998, from The Physical Mind Institute in Santa Fe, under Jane Erskine, one of the pioneer certifying instructors at the Institute.
Dana graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, with a focus on dance, kinesiology, and functional anatomy, which has helped her bring a disciplined methodology to her training. Dana has studied under many famous dance teachers, including: Edward Villella (NYC Ballet and Miami City Ballet), Violette Verdy (NYC Ballet), Patricia Neary (NYC Ballet), Alaine Haubert (American Ballet Theater), Robyne Watkin (Hartford Ballet), Pamela Taylor-Tongg (Atlanta Ballet and Ballet Hawaii), Michael Vernon (Royal Ballet), Maria Vegh (Harkness House for Ballet Arts), and Glenda Carhart (National Ballet of Canada and Riverside Ballet Arts).
Throughout her career, Dana was associated, either as a dancer, Pilates instructor, or a member of the Board of Directors, with The Hartford Ballet (Hartford, CT, 1971-76), Joffrey Ballet (Los Angeles, 1989-90), California Riverside Ballet (1990-98), and Ballet Hawaii (Honolulu, 1992-2000).
For more than 20 years, she has used her experience as a dancer, combined with her formal education, to do restorative Pilates with injured dancers from major companies around the world. The dance companies they came from included American Ballet Theater, NYC Ballet, Royal Ballet, Lines Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Ballet Arizona, and ballet companies in Japan and South America. Since then, she has also worked with injured athletes and other people who can benefit from her specialized Pilates expertise and techniques.
Dana is a co-founder of Pure Private Fitness, and is currently responsible for marketing and promotions for the fitness studios.
